Five miles west of Lansing, along the Grand River, is Grand Ledge. Its name is no coincidence and it doesn't disappoint, with its towering sandstone ledges that line the banks of the river. If you're daring enough, head to Oak Park to scale upwards of 30-foot cliffs in more than 100 different climbing routes. In fact, Grand Ledge has the only natural cliff-face in the Lower Peninsula. For a scenic hike, check out the 40-foot ledges in Fitzgerald Park and over three miles of trails. Within the park you'll find Ledges Playhouse, a theatrical barn venue with a rustic ambiance.
In Grand Ledge, unique attractions are not just limited to its namesake ledges. Head down to the river to watch rushing water spill over the Grand Ledge Dam or to see fish traverse up the fish ladder. Throughout the year, Island Park hosts various events like the Color Cruise and Island Festival, Island Art Fair, and Civil War reenactments during Victorian Days.
For the courageous...or casual.
Whether scaling the historic sandstone ledges or simply enjoying the downtown shops and eateries, you can explore the best of the outdoors (and indoors) in Grand Ledge.
